He Wrote A Best Seller

* This is a reprint from a devotional dated, December 4, 2013.

For God expressed His love for the world in this way: He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him will not face everlasting destruction, but will have everlasting life. (Jn 3:16 VOICE)

It is a complicated storyline woven through ages of time. Begun where one man made the wrong choice. And the character having made the wrong choice then affects everyone around him. His wife. His children. His grandchildren. And generations to come.

Nations collapsed based on his choice. People died because of what he decided. People he'd never meet. People who had no idea of the magnitude of it.Wars were fought because of his actions, one human hating another for reasons unfathomable, some making great sacrifices on behalf of the common good.

Soon, it was all going to pot, an entirely slate of humanity headed downhill in a hand-basket, all because one man followed a woman who was deceived.

And the plot thickens. The Author of the story set about to right things, to redirect the story where it went wrong. But instead of erasing it, instead of wiping out pages and starting over, He inserted characters who heard His voice, who followed His directions and thereby led the host of humanity toward one cumulative event.

However, to get there He first needed someone willing to step out in faith, willing to give of herself in spite of all that society demanded, and also, a man who would shelter her, ignore the press, ignore the stares, the looks, the whispered words, and perform the impossible.

Because this ate at Him. He grieved over the progress of the story. It had to be made right. It had to be redirected. There had to come the ultimate Protagonist to bring things to a head, to speak the Words written in His heart clearly and with power. But He'd have to come from the very ones who'd unknowingly went astray or this wouldn't work.

His Protagonist would be of the people, a man like them, descended from others who over decades, centuries, listened to the Author. And yet a Man like none of them at all. Humble. Without Sin. And abounding with the extreme love that sent Him here to start with. He would be born with cows and chickens in the darkness of night, in a city His parents weren't from, in a time of persecution, after a journey of many miles.

And once born, men worshipped at his feet. Him, a baby, unable to talk or speak. Humble men who tended their flocks and later, the wisest of men who traveled from afar. Their differences as extreme as the storyline the Author was writing.

As extreme as the Gift the Author was giving.
As extreme as the days the Protagonist would live.
As extreme as the death the Protagonist would suffer.

And all this extremity to be swallowed up in a climactic moment written in the last chapter on the last page where the Protagonist wins salvation for all of mankind, where He brings healing and peace and prosperity to any who will reach out and take it.

You know ... the page you clasp to your chest, emotion swirling through you, declaring this was the best Book ever!

Or is it really the end? Is the story still going? Still growing, extending, and stretching. Still loving even the smallest person in the worst situation who never knew there was a storyline at all.

Because that's how big the Event was. How far-reaching. How extensive. How momentous. How Eternal.

How bestselling.
