God's Not Down With That

"Ladies and gentleman, if you'll look under your seats, each member of our audience has received a free ticket to ..."

Please, God is not Oprah. He's not sitting up there handing out freebies while you sit on your keister and live it up.

Don't get me wrong. He wants you to have quality of life, the best of the very best. Health. Prosperity. Success. Jesus died to provide full and complete salvation of body, mind, and soul. (G4991, Strong's Hebrew and Greek Dictionary, e-sword)

He didn't die so you can fill your barn simply to brag to your neighbor how big your barn is. Or build a new and bigger barn. (Lk 12:17-19)

God isn't a status symbol. He's not a Rolex or Prada shoes. You can't parade him down the avenue with the bass turned up.

It's not look at me, but look at Him.

God gives things so that we can give things.
God heals our heart, so we can have compassion on someone who's hurting.
God fills us with peace in order to enable us to fill others with peace.

He blessed the evangelist with an airplane because he had a worldwide ministry and was willing to lay his life down to preach the gospel. (Mt 19:29)

He bought that single mom a house because she prayed and believed for ten years to get out of debt, all the while wisely using her money, working to pay her bills, and giving to those in need.

He provided that family with a meal because they have four small children.

He's a merciful God, who wants to see everyone living to their complete potential. But He isn't into the Bless-Me System.

There are times when He gives me things I don't deserve. But you know what? Afterward, I was thankful. I shared what Christ did for me, how God changed my life, how big and mighty and powerful He was. I didn't sit down and count my pocket change, all the while rubbing my success in someone's face. (Mt 6:1-3)

That, my friend, is pride, and it's a sure way to fall down on your backside.  (Pr 16:18)

So stand in faith for that need you have. God will do it. Believe to live above your circumstances, to walk blessed in a flawed world. God is all for that. You can have a new dress, a new car, a better job, a victorious life.

But not at the expense of others and not if all you're going to do it squander it in riotous living. (Lk 15:13) God's not down with that.

Since you were brought back to life with Christ, focus on the things that are above-where Christ holds the highest position. Keep your mind on things above, not on worldly things. (Col 3:1-2 GW)
