And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.I heard it said recently that though the angel told Mary what would happen with her, she could not possibly have understood it, and frankly, I'd never given that any thought.
But here's the thought I want to leave you with today - how much faith did it take for Mary to accept the angel's words? In the face of an announcement she would give birth to a son who would be the Savior, in the face of conceiving having not been with a man, and despite an angelic being delivering the message, it took great faith for her to respond as she did.
Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. (Lk 1:38)
There is a lesson for all of us to learn from that.
Sometimes we know God's will, know what He has has asked of us, we might even have had a "word from the Lord" about it, yet we never walk forward in faith. I am as guilty of this as the next guy.
But look at what can happen when someone chooses to believe God will do as He said.
And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord. (Lk 1:45)
